The Open Charge Alliance launched several improvements for the OCPP Certification Program. The OCA team has worked very hard to enhance the certification process. Based on experience from the last five years, and feedback from vendors and legislators, the OCPP Certification Program has been updated to reduce the effort to get certified for the industry and to increase the verifiability of a certificate. The Certification Program is also extended to allow for the certification of OCPP 1.6 Charging Station Software Stacks and Product Families. This launch is closely linked to the functional enhancements launched with the OCPP Compliance Testing Tool (OCTT) version released earlier this week and the publication of the OCPP 2.0.1 Errata 2025-02.
The updated program introduces a number of enhancements:
- Product Family listing on the OCPP Certificate
- Introduction of a Vendor Declaration of Conformance
- Re-certification of Updated Software Versions: introduction of faster API testing
- Certification of a software stack for OCPP 1.6
- Transparency on additional communication ports by including these on the certificate
- Randomization of certification test sequence
- Inclusion of the Firmware image hash on the OCPP Certificate for traceability
- Validation of the device model and Firmware Version / OCPP Software Version reported during testing and adding this to the certificate or vendor declaration
- Improvements to test process and the OCPP Conformance Test Tool to perform additional validations and include an audit trail on the testing process
These improvements make certification faster, clearer, and more effective, helping businesses to bring compliant products to market as fast and easy as possible. The Certification Program is governed by the OCA Compliance Working Group.
About the OCA Certification program
The OCPP Certification Program allows companies to validate their OCPP implementation for conformance with the OCPP 2.0.1 or 1.6 specifications. OCPP certification enhances industry interoperability and is a requirement for government funding in several countries and regions.
The OCPP certification testing is done by a neutral 3rd party test laboratory. The list of OCA designated test labs can be found on our website: Testing laboratories – Open Charge Alliance. The certificate is issued by the Open Charge Alliance. A list of all certified products can be found on the OCA website. With the growing number of certified products on the market, it is more important than ever to ensure the authenticity of OCA certifications. Read more about the verification of certificates here.
