About us

The Open Charge Alliance (OCA) is a non-profit organisation founded in 2014. With members from all over the world we focus on open standards and improving the development of sustainable charging.

Our mission is to foster global development, adoption, and compliance of communication protocols in the EV charging infrastructure and related standards through collaboration, education, testing, and certification.

OCA has multiple activities as an organization and as a community.

  • Governance of the OCPP and OSCP protocols
  • Promote OCPP and OSCP protocol
  • Bring together and enthuse the EV community for open standards
  • Host working groups to stimulate the development of OCPP
  • Host events to stimulate the use and development of OCPP in the form of Plugfests and webinairs
  • Make sure OCPP is adjusted to the needs of the industry

The Open Charge Alliance is an industry alliance which is directed by the OCA board. The OCA board contains five companies which are representing all the OCA members: Shell Recharge, ESB, Total Energies, Pionix GmbH and ElaadNL.

The board is responsible for the annual plan and the budget, establishing or ending working groups and task groups and for the determination of the main strategy.

Within the OCA community working groups are formed, the current working groups are the Technology Working Group (TWG) and the Compliance Working Group (CWG). Within these working groups small task groups are formed to research and work on specific problems, these groups are temporary.

As a non-profit foundation, we reinvest the fees collected from members and companies purchasing OCTT to advance the development and spread of OCPP and other open standards.

For more information on the OCA structure please check the OCA Policies and Procedures.
