Shape the future of OCPP

The OCA Working Groups and Task Groups offer you the opportunity to join the discussion and to shape the future of OCPP. OCA’s two main working groups are the Technology Working Group (TWG) and the Compliance Working Group (CWG). There are also four Task Groups that work on specific topics. Learn more about all current groups below.

You can contribute to the future of open standards in EV charging by joining our community and becoming a Working Group or Task Group member. Don’t miss your chance to:

  • work collaboratively toward our common goal of improving OCPP
  • keep track of key meetings and deliverables, decide together what matters
  • build relationships and network with your peers
  • contribute to your experience to align protocol with practice
  • get access to Causeway, our collaboration platform for in-depth OCPP resources, standardization developments, upcoming OCPP versions and more

Compliance Working Group (CWG)

Compliance Working Group OCA

The Compliance Working Group (CWG) is responsible for all activities required for and associated with the testing of OCA Standards implementations in order to promote interoperability and advancement towards certification. This group also works on the design of the certification program by establishing the requirements and test cases for certification testing and providing (developing or procuring) testing tools, harnesses, and processes.

Technology Working Group (TWG)

Technology Working Group OCA

The Technology Working Group (TWG) is responsible for all activities required for and related to the creation, publication, and maintenance of OCA Standards (technical specification documents). This includes authoring and refining specification drafts and may also involve other activities such as investigating and piloting potentially relevant technologies. The TWG meets every other week. These biweekly meetings take place on alternating timeslots, to ensure that all time zones can be represented. Apart from the meetings, the TWG has a very active discussion page where questions can be asked, and discussions can be started on several OCPP topics Within this Working Group, smaller Task Groups are formed to focus on specific technologies or subjects. These groups are temporarily active and are retired once their objectives have been achieved.

Regional & Regulatory Requirements Working Group

RRR working group OCA

The Regional & Regulatory Requirements Working Group was started in September 2025. It focuses on regulatory affairs and regional developments. Specifically, the group members monitor regional requirements and regulations in EV charging infrastructure worldwide. They also identify actions for promoting and developing OCPP and advancing testing and certification.

Networking / Local Controller Task Group

Networking / local controller Task Group OCA

The Local Controller is mentioned as a concept in OCPP. The task group aims to develop use cases with clear requirements for how a Local Controller should behave, including offline behavior, the possibilities of a Local Controller acting as a “Local CSM” and evaluating the already existing draft proposal for a routing extension to OCPP from the Networking Task Group.

Cyber Security Task Group

Cyber Security Task Group OCA

With the rise of popularity of EVs and charging stations, the importance of protecting chargers and CSMSs from malicious actors is a top priority for OCA. With that in mind, the Cyber Security Task Group works on ensuring that the security component of the OCPP Protocol adheres to major security protocols around the world, along with any specific legislative directives or guidelines. Another focus is on preventing malicious actors from gaining access to communication between Charging devices and CSMSs. Lastly, this group works on simplifying the implementation of authentication and connectivity between Charging Devices and CSMSs.

Commissioning Task Group

Commissioning Task Group OCA

The number of charging points is growing every year and so is the importance of management backends. Commissioning of charging stations can be challenging. Therefore, this group works on several commissioning topics, such as challenges and standardization needs, user experience and simplification, as well as remote and automated commissioning. The aim is to create an overview of key commissioning challenges, to review existing solutions and to identify gaps.

OCPP 2.Lite Task Group (Ended)

OCPP 2.Lite Task Group OCA

This group has ended in 2025. It has defined the smallest possible implementation of OCPP 2.0.1: OCPP 2.Lite. The objective of OCPP 2.Lite is to address the needs of specific markets, particularly those requiring cost-efficient charging infrastructure for low-cost vehicles such as 2-wheelers and 3-wheelers. Emphasizing the importance of cost-effectiveness of EV chargers, this project seeks to minimize resource wastage by avoiding unnecessary features. OCPP 2.Lite is aiming for low data communication costs, minimal code, memory, and processing power requirements, thus ensuring low hardware costs. This project is a response to feedback from several OCA participants, and is a step towards innovative, cost-effective charging solutions in the EV industry.
