Electric vehicles have become the new standard for mobility worldwide. A prerequisite for this impact is the sufficient coverage of charging stations across relevant regions. However, the challenges in the electric vehicle sector go beyond just charging infrastructure. They also include the openness of communication protocols.

Only with open protocols can services be switched between different charging networks without changing charging stations, and interoperability between different power networks be ensured. OCPP addresses these challenges by establishing a communication protocol between charging stations and charging network stakeholders.

It has become the de facto standard widely adopted across the industry.
