White Label Certification

White Label Certification

Within the OCPP Certification Program, certificates are issued only for products that have been physically tested by an OCA-designated test laboratory. In practice, however, some Charging Stations are brought to market as “white label” products: devices that have already been certified, but are sold by another vendor under their own brand name. Requiring each of these re-branded variants to undergo full certification again would create unnecessary additional costs and could obscure the identity of the original manufacturer.

To address this, the OCA provides White Label Certificates for Charging Stations that have already been certified and are subsequently re-branded by another vendor. A re-branded Charging Station is defined as:

  • the exact same product internally (both hardware and firmware version),

  • but carrying a different brand name (vendor name and optionally a different product designation) and/or a different housing.

This approach ensures that OCPP certification remains transparent and efficient, while allowing market participants the flexibility to offer certified products under their own brand.

Within the OCPP Certification Program we will refer to the original creator of the Charging Station as the original vendor. The vendor that uses a re-branded version will be referred to as re-branding vendor.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR A WHITE LABEL CERTIFICATE?

Acquiring a White Label Certificate is possible for both OCA members and non-members. When a re-branding vendor applies for a White Label Certificate, the following requirements must be met:

  • The original vendor must provide consent for issuing an additional certificate to the re-branding vendor.

  • Both the original vendor and the re-branding vendor must confirm in writing that the already certified product and the re-branded product are technically identical, including hardware and firmware.

  • The re-branding vendor must acknowledge that OCA may request written proof of the original vendor’s approval of this declaration, if needed.

  • The re-branding vendor must agree to forward the issued White Label Certificate(s) to the original vendor.

  • The original certificate must not be older than 12 months at the time of the White Label Certificate request.

These requirements ensure that White Label Certificates are issued only when the re-branded product is fully identical to the certified original, maintaining transparency and integrity within the OCPP Certification Program.

HOW CAN I GET MY PRODUCT TESTED AND CERTIFIED?

The process for obtaining an OCPP White Label Certificate always starts with the certification of the original product. First, the original Charging Station is tested by an OCA-designated test laboratory following the regular OCPP Certification procedure. Once all required tests have been successfully completed, OCA issues a standard OCPP Certificate for that product. Only after this step is completed can a re-branded (white label) version of the same product be considered for a White Label Certificate.

White label certification for re-branded products

If you are a re-branding vendor and want to obtain a White Label Certificate for your product, you can submit a request via the official OCA online form, which will be available as a “Request White Label Certificate” button on this page. This form is available to both OCA members and non-members.

OCA verification and issuing the White Label Certificate

After receiving your request, OCA will contact the original vendor to verify that they agree to issuing one or more additional certificates for the re-branded product. Once this has been confirmed, OCA will issue a White Label Certificate. This certificate includes the relevant information from the original certificate, clearly states that it is a White Label Certificate, describes what an OCPP White Label product is, and lists the details of the re-branding vendor and product.

What does white label certification cost?

The table below lists the cost of a white label certificate for OCA members and non-members.
