New Certification Program OCPP 1.6

Fri 03 Oct 2025

News / New Certification Program OCPP 1.6

As of October 1st, we are proud to announce the new OCPP 1.6 Certification Program.

Since 2019, the OCPP 1.6 Certification Program has helped ensure interoperability and compliance across the EV charging industry. Over the years, certification included a mandatory Core profile alongside several optional certification profiles, such as Firmware Management, Smart Charging, Reservation, Local Authorization List Management, Remote Trigger, and Security.

Starting October 2025, the Program is updated to align the OCPP 1.6 Certification Program with the OCPP 2.X Certification Program, and with the higher security requirements from the industry.

What’s new?
The Core profile has been expanded:

  • Firmware Management and Security Profile 2 are now mandatory parts of the Core profile.
  • Reservation, Local Authorization List Management, and Remote Trigger are available as optional features within the Core profile.

The following remain optional certification profiles:

  • Smart Charging
  • Advanced Security

This update strengthens the baseline requirements for OCPP 1.6 certification, ensuring that certified implementations meet today’s expectations for security, reliability, and functionality.

New OCPP 1.6 Certification Logo
Alongside the updated OCPP 1.6 Certification Program, we are introducing a new OCPP 1.6 Certified logo.

This fresh badge replaces the previous “Fully Certified,” “Subset Certified,” and “Security Certified” marks. The new design aligns visually with the OCPP 2.0.1 certification mark, making it more consistent and recognizable across the OCPP Certification Program for the different OCPP versions.
