As the e-mobility landscape rapidly expands across India and Nepal, the need for cost-efficient, secure charging infrastructure more urgent than ever. That’s why the Open Charge Alliance invites the Indian and Nepalese EV Charging Community to Pune for an exciting, hands-on two-day event for software developers to come together to build, test, and prove their OCPP implementations. OCA has prepared two Grand Challenges, the winner of which will be awarded a grand prize!
OCPP 2.Lite is the smallest possible implementation of OCPP 2.0.1, as defined by the OCPP Lite Working Group. It is designed to address the needs of specific markets that require cost-efficient charging infrastructure. Emphasizing the importance of cost-effectiveness, the project seeks to minimize resource usage by avoiding unnecessary features. OCPP 2.Lite aims to reduce data communication costs and minimize code size, memory, and processing power requirements — ultimately enabling lower hardware costs. The OCPP 2.Lite whitepaper can be downloaded here: OCPP 2.Lite
The challenge is open to Indian and Nepalese EV charger manufacturers and students from technical institutions. All participants must be software developers with experience in embedded systems, firmware development, or EV charging protocols.
OCPP2.Lite Grand Challenge: Can you implement OCPP2.Lite on your charger?
Most chargers in India still rely on OCPP 1.6, and many assume OCPP 2.x is too heavy for embedded systems. The OCPP Lite Task Group has proven that OCPP 2.0.1 can run on resource-constrained devices — it is your challenge to implement it!
If your charger passes the tests, you will win one full year of OCTT access!
OCPP Security Grand Challenge: Is your Charging Station Cyber Secure?
OCA is challenging anyone with a charging station to demonstrate that their charger is OCPP secure! Can you pass the testcases required for the OCPP1.6 Security Certificate or for the OCPP2.0.1 Core Certificate, that includes Security Profile 2? Or for the OCPP 2.0.1 Advanced Security Certificate, that includes Security Profile 3?
Pass the OCTT tests and win a free OCPP certification run at an official OCPP Certification lab!
Kickstart your development with free access to OCTT, the official OCPP testing tool — available to all accepted teams in the three weeks leading up to the challenge. You can build your implementation from scratch, or you can accelerate your work using open-source code base such as MicroOCPP. The most valuable contributors to MicroOCPP will be awarded a prize!
During the OCPP Grand Challenge India, OCPP experts will be on-site to answer your questions, help you debug, and support your success.
Register today and take on the OCPP Grand Challenge India! You can participate alone or in a team of two people.
Registration is open until June 13.
Spots are limited! After the registration deadline, all applications will be reviewed, and up to 20 teams of two people will be selected to participate in the OCPP Grand Challenge.
Please note: If you are selected as participant, there is a participation fee of 2000 INR per team, which includes lunch & drinks during the two-day event, as well as three weeks of access to OCTT!
