Open Charge Alliance is proud to announce a milestone in the OCPP Certification Program: the first Product Family Certificates have been issued for both OCPP 1.6 and OCPP 2.0.1.
The first certificates have been given out to PUMPKIN Co., Ltd. (OCPP 1.6) and to Alpitronic (OCPP 2.0.1), marking the official launch of Product Family Certification in practice.
What is Product Family Certification?
Many charging stations share the same firmware and OCPP-relevant hardware features, while differing only in aspects such as physical size, power level, or the number of connectors. When these differences do not affect OCPP behavior, such products can be grouped into an OCPP Product Family.
Within each Product Family, one Representative Product is fully tested during certification at an official OCA test lab. If it demonstrates correct OCPP behavior, the vendor can create a Vendor Declaration of Conformance (VDOC) using the OCPP Compliance Test Tool (OCTT) for the other products in the same product family.
The VDOC tests are performed by the vendor, without involvement from the test lab. Once the declaration is completed and approved, all products belonging to the same family can be listed on the certificate.
Why this matters
Product Family Certification makes OCPP certification more efficient for vendors with multiple product variants, while preserving the trustworthiness of the certification program for the wider ecosystem.
